I’m far from a trendy gal, never one to do the “happening” thing. When skinny jeans became hot, I stood firm and never bought a pair. I just know my body, and my hips weren’t having it! Just because it became cool didn’t mean I would rock them. That’s why I put off ever trying this whole “Cranberry and Orange” combo thing, which I thought was just another food fad in my traditional mind. That was until my curiosity was peaked by a slice of cranberry orange loaf cake recently. The first bite solidified why these flavors are a dream together. I honestly had no idea how powerful it could be for the taste buds, hence the creation of this Cranberry Orange Smoothie.
I’m not usually a cranberry fan I must admit. I am the one that continues passing the cranberry sauce around the table at Thanksgiving without ever partaking in any. It is just a bit too tart for me on its own. Once I added them to this cake recipe, I started singing a new tune. I also realized how bright the citrus tones could shine against the tartness. The addition of frozen banana added the creamy texture I love in my smoothies. Its inclusion always mimics a milkshake’s structure without the fat of course. Because of the cranberries in this cranberry orange smoothie, it can be a bit tart so you are welcome to add a sweetener like agave nectar or maple syrup if you need to.
This cranberry orange smoothie is my first experience working with these two flavors, and it won’t be the last.

Cranberry Orange Smoothie
- 3/4 cup frozen cranberries
- 2 small frozen bananas
- 1/2-2/3 cup fresh orange juice
- Optional: Agave Nectar, Honey, Stevia or Maple Syrup for sweetener
- Add all items to your blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
