Perfect Orange Honey Glazed Salmon Recipe
I’m super excited to share this winter friendly recipe that is perfect for entertaining or even a busy weeknight. The flavors come together effortlessly and in a nick of time.
I love to serve this recipe for guests because it feels very indulgent and special but it doesn’t require a lot of my time to make.
Honey Glazed Salmon Ingredients
This recipe starts with very quality ingredients which is why it doesn’t require a lot to make it taste wonderful. The key ingredients that truly make a difference in the flavor are the following:
- Wild Salmon Fillets
- Oranges
- Brown Sugar
- Honey
- Spices and Flavors
I selected high quality Wild Salmon Fillets for this salmon. You really want the flavor of the salmon to shine through. Wild Salmon has very different qualities from farmed. It is caught in oceans, lakes and rivers. That means that they are bred in their natural environments and eat other organisms found there. Salmon on its own is full of high quality fat, omega fatty acids and nutrition and I definitely prefer wild caught to increase this nutritional gain.
For this recipe, I decided to use blood oranges instead of regular oranges. Blood Oranges are usually only available starting after January and are mostly seasonal during winter unless you buy fresh blood orange juice from other vendors. You can totally replace blood oranges with any choice of orange for this recipe if you want to make year round.
The blood oranges create a gorgeous ruby tinted glaze. The citrusy taste is paired with sweetness from brown sugar and honey and spicy flavor is from various seasonings and spices. Honey allows the glaze to truly become sticky and adhesive to the fish.
P.S. I add a little hint of spice to this recipe in the form of cayenne pepper and creole seasoning. Also a hint of paprika brings it all together. I personally love the combination of heat and sweet, and it works perfectly here.
Tip: If you can’t handle a lot of spice, feel free to lower the amount or omit all together.
How to Make Salmon Glaze for Glazed Salmon Recipe
To start this recipe, we move to the stovetop to begin the glaze.
You will add all of the liquids including the honey, orange juice and worcestershire and even the brown sugar and allow that to combine and thicken up over medium heat. It will reduce by half leaving a nice slightly thick glaze that will be irresistible.
Now it is time to move over to the salmon.
Tip: Pat dry your fish before beginning to remove extra moisture and allow it to brown better.
We think salt and pepper both sides and sprinkle with additional flavors as well.
Next you will begin the brushing of glaze. The glaze brushing will continue several times as the salmon bakes really allowing it to become one with the fish and nice and sticky.
Tip: Don’t Overbake Your Salmon!
There is nothing delicious about overbaked fish. Make sure you begin checking for flakiness and doneness before the amount of time needed to complete the recipe. You will want it tender and moist.
This is a great recipe for a weekday when you want to get dinner on the table fast or for a seafood loving dinner party and of course for this year’s Valentine’s Day. Some of us are over reservations, overcrowded restaurants or going out in the rush all together. Why not create a comfortable and romantic night at home with your loved one. If you make this dish, you won’t regret it.
