I’m super excited to share this winter friendly recipe that is perfect for entertaining or even a busy weeknight.  The flavors come together effortlessly and in a nick of time.

I love to serve this recipe for guests because it feels very indulgent and special but it doesn’t require a lot of my time to make.

Ingredients

This recipe starts with very quality ingredients which is why it doesn’t require a lot to make it taste wonderful.  The key ingredients that truly make a difference in the flavor are the following:

  • Wild Salmon Fillets
  • Oranges
  • Brown Sugar
  • Honey
  • Spices and Flavors

I selected high quality Wild Salmon Fillets for this salmon.  You really want the flavor of the salmon to shine through.  Wild Salmon has very different qualities from farmed.  It is caught in oceans, lakes and rivers.  That means that they are bred in their natural environments and eat other organisms found there.  Salmon on its own is full of high quality fat, omega fatty acids and nutrition and I definitely prefer wild caught to increase this nutritional gain.

For this recipe, I decided to use blood oranges instead of regular oranges.  Blood Oranges are usually only available starting after January and are mostly seasonal during winter unless you buy fresh blood orange juice from other vendors.

The citrusy taste is paired with sweetness from brown sugar and honey and spicy flavor is from various seasonings and spices.  Honey allows the glaze to truly become sticky and adhesive to the fish.

Tip: If you can’t handle a lot of spice, feel free to lower the amount or omit all together.

How to Make Honey Glazed Salmon

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  • To begin the glaze, add brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, and blood orange juice to a saucepan over medium-high heat until the mixture begins to boil then bring heat down to medium-low and continue simmering.
  • Simmer for about 7-13 minutes until the glaze has thickened and reduced to ½ the original amount. Set aside.
  • Pat each side of the salmon fillets with a paper towel to remove extra moisture then season both sides with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Place fillets on a non-stick foil lined baking sheet. Next evenly sprinkle the top sides with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, creole seasoning (and cayenne pepper if desired) then brush half of the glaze on each salmon fillet.
  • Bake fillets for 10 minutes then brush the remaining glaze on each fillet and turn the oven to broil. Cook until glaze sticks to fillets and fillets are flaky, about 2-3 minutes more making sure not to burn the glaze or overbake the fillets. Watch carefully.

Tips

Tip 1: Pat dry your fish before beginning to remove extra moisture and allow it to brown better.

Tip 2: Don’t Overbake Your Salmon!

There is nothing delicious about overbaked fish.  Make sure you begin checking for flakiness and doneness before the amount of time needed to complete the recipe.  You will want it tender and moist.

  • Shrimp Caesar Salad: Keep it light and crunchy with a classic Caesar, adding a refreshing element to your meal. I like to add shrimp to mine. Keeps the entire meal pescatarian.

How to Store and Reheat

To store your Honey Glazed Salmon, let it cool down, then place it in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2-3 days. When you’re ready for a savory repeat, gently reheat the salmon in a skillet over low heat to maintain its moisture and flavor. I personally don’t recommend the microwave.
