Watermelon Lemonade

Back in the day, summer didn’t officially start in my house until my daddy came through with a big ol’ watermelon. I still love eating it cold by the slice, sticky fingers and all, but this watermelon lemonade is how I’m sippin it now boos! It really tastes like summer poured right into your glass. Fizzy, minty, and as refreshing as a cool dip in the pool.

1. Make the lemonade base

Bowl with lemon juice, sugar, and fresh mint leaves on a white marble countertop before muddling

Add the lemon juice, sugar, and fresh mint to a large pitcher or bowl. Lightly muddle the mint to release its oils, then whisk until the sugar dissolves.

2. Blend the watermelon puree

Add the watermelon cubes to a blender and blend until completely smooth.

PRO TIP: I don’t mind a little pulp, but if you want a clean, sippable refreshing watermelon drink, run the puree through a fine mesh strainer.

3. Combine everything

Watermelon puree mixed with the lemon and mint mixture in a large bowl on a white marble countertop

Pour the watermelon puree into the lemon mixture, add the sparkling water, and stir gently until combined.

4. Garnish and serve

Recipe Tips

  • Juice your lemons right. Roll them on the counter before slicing. If they’re still firm, microwave them for 10 seconds so they give up more juice.
  • Pick a juicy watermelon. Look for one that feels heavy for its size with a creamy yellow field spot. That means it sat on the ground long enough to get sweet and ripe. Bonus points if it has a deep hollow sound when you tap it!
  • Taste before serving. You can also start with less sugar, then taste and add more if needed. A really sweet watermelon may not need the full amount.
  • Don’t serve it warm. This watermelon mint lemonade is best over plenty of ice, boos. Summer deserves that kind of treatment!
