Storage and Reheating
- Fridge: Let those beans cool to room temp then scoop them into airtight containers and pop in the fridge. They should keep for about 4-5 days.
- Freezer: Just add the room temp baked bean recipe to freezer-safe containers the same way. They should keep up to 3 months.
- Reheating: Thaw in the fridge overnight if frozen then reheat in an oven-safe dish with a foil cover at 350 F degrees for about 20-30 minutes until they are bubbly again. If you gotta speed up the process, pop in a microwave safe container into the microwave for about 2-4 minutes, stirring halfway through to keep the cooking even.

Yummy melding of brown sugar sweetness and the twang of barbecue sauce and mustard. I’ve never added green peppers to beans before and they certainly enhanced the flavor, especially since they were just picked from our garden! For the two of us hiding from COVID within our home’s walls, I halved the recipe, which still provides enough for two meals. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these beans, which we enjoyed eating in our garden under the stars when the triple digit heat finally subsided for the day. Such an easy dish to prepare. Such a delicious reward with each mouthful any time of the year.
My family ate the whole pot! Sweet, savory and smoky. Yum
I’ve been looking for a baked beans recipe for summer and now I’ve found the absolute best!
These are WONDERFUL! Mine ended up being “stovetop” baked beans because I ran out of room in the oven but still so delicious and flavorful! Can’t wait to try more recipes this week!
I love baked beans but am afraid to say I haven’t made them from scratch for years, I’ve only ordered them or opened a can in recent years so I don’t even remember where to start to make them, so this helps! Especially since legumes are part of my diet, and I need a change from my regular minced black beans, and this works, so thank you!
These look wonderful and I love that you provided the background story. Thank you!
