Spaghetti and Meatballs – spaghetti pasta married to homemade spaghetti sauce and succulent hand rolled meatballs. This dish will turn any meal into one to remember! If you love this recipe, you will also love these BBQ Meatballs and Lentil Meatballs and Spaghetti!
I buy a lot of groceries. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. For the last five months, I have balanced a grocery budget that has included constant cookbook recipe development and testing, blog recipes and brand assignments, not to mention meals for my husband and I. It is enough to equal our mortgage if I let it. That’s where Aldi comes in.
Aldi has been a grocery store of choice in my family for years. It always comes through when you still want quality ingredients and products for less. Shopping there has helped me save tons of money without losing the high end level of products that I love to have.
Shopping for ingredients for a weekday dinner like this Spaghetti and Meatballs ends up costing close to 50% less than a competitor’s grocery store. I picked up quality ingredients, like this olive oil…
And this ground turkey and sausage which you can use for the meatballs, and other key ingredients for no more than 15 bucks. I even picked up some snacks and didn’t feel like I had to adhere to a safe budget. Everything is in budget when I shop there. When you switch your staple items over to Aldi, you will no doubt feel the same.
Now speaking of this spaghetti and meatballs, I have been making this recipe for quite some time in my house.
I usually throw some of this and some of that in, and it works. I tend to cook very organically. However, I actually tried to write down a bit of my instructions so I could share the recipe with you.
I love to use turkey or chicken sausage and ground turkey or chicken to make them lighter but you can definitely make these with regular pork sausage or ground beef or whatever you prefer. The taste is still absolutely incredible.
The homemade sauce is so simple and absolutely delicious! It only requires a few ingredients as well. This recipe is very easy but the flavor is amazing, and you won’t believe how cheap it all was to make! Get to Aldi, pick up the ingredients today, and get to cooking for less!

Spaghetti and Meatballs
Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
- 1/2 pound turkey or chicken sausage decased
- 1/2 pound ground turkey or chicken
- 1 large egg beaten
- 3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian herbs
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper for some heat
- 1/3 cup seasoned bread crumbs
For the Spaghetti Sauce:
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
- 1/3 cup red wine
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked spaghetti
- Optional: Parmesan Cheese, Basil or Parsley to Garnish.
Instructions
- Add sausage, ground turkey or chicken, egg, worchestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, italian herbs, red pepper and bread crumbs into a medium sized bowl and mix together using your hands until well combined.
- Ball the mixture into small to medium sized meatballs and set aside on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Wash hands and add 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil into a medium sized pan over medium high heat.
- Cook meatballs in batches until golden brown, turning over on all sides to make sure it is thoroughly cooked through. Add more olive oil if necessary to cook all meatballs. Remove meatballs from pan and drain on paper towels until all are done.
- Begin on the sauce by turning the heat to medium low and adding a bit more olive oil then chopped onions and cook until tender.
- Next add in garlic and cook for only 30 seconds making sure not to burn.
- Add in your crushed tomatoes, and stir in red wine, Italian seasoning, sugar and salt and pepper. Allow to simmer for about 4-5 minutes then add in your meatballs and cover to cook for 15-20 minutes over low heat to thicken and allow the flavors to come together.
- Either toss your cooked spaghetti pasta in or spoon spaghetti sauce and meatballs over cooked spaghetti. Garnish with parmesan cheese, basil and/or parsley and serve.
